Entryway & Hallway Relief Panels

The cheapest wall in this catalogue and, for the money, the most effective one. A corridor is seen at an angle, in raking light — the exact condition relief was invented for. A 16 sq ft section by the front door starts at $800, installed, in Jacksonville.

The wall itself

What it is

A section of cast gypsum relief next to the door, along a corridor, or on the return wall you face when you walk in. Modules are fixed, joints filled, and the whole field painted so it reads as sculpted wall rather than something hung on it.

Narrow rooms flatter relief. You never see a hallway wall straight on — you see it in passing, from a few feet away, with light running along it. That is the angle at which depth shows most and flat decoration shows least. It is also why a small section here does more work than the same money spread across a big open room.

This wall gets touched. Shoulders, bags, a dog going past, children with hands on the wall. So the lower band gets shallower relief and softened edges, and the deep modelling goes above shoulder height where nothing reaches it. Painted plaster wipes down.

It takes no floor. The relief sits closer to the wall than a picture frame, and much closer than the console table it often replaces — in a corridor that is the difference between decoration and an obstacle.

Price

What this wall costs

Two configurations. The first is the least expensive way to have real cast plaster in your house; the second is when the corridor itself becomes the piece.

Ready-made · lowest entry

Relief section by the door

from$800
$800–1,400 · about $50–62 per sq ft, installed

16–24 sq ft — four to six cast modules of 24×24 in, sized to the wall between the door and the corner.
3–5 days. The patterns already exist, so nothing waits on a mould.

Semi-custom

Corridor composition

from$3,000
$3,000–3,600 · about $60–75 per sq ft, installed

50 sq ft — a run down the length of the hallway, set out so the rhythm works as you walk past it and resolves at both ends.
2–3 weeks.

Installed prices, Jacksonville area, free measure within 40 miles. Stripping wallpaper or panelling, or levelling an out-of-true wall, adds $300–800 of preparation. We don't take projects under $800 — below that the visit costs more than the wall, and we'd rather say so than pad the quote.

Which tier

Stock, semi-custom or custom for this wall

Hallways are the one place where the cheapest tier is genuinely the right answer rather than a compromise — the field is flat, rectangular, and interrupted by nothing.

  • Ready-made is what we recommend first. Cast modules from patterns we already hold, cut to the wall between two fixed points. Days, not weeks, and the material is exactly the same plaster as on a $15,000 wall.
  • Semi-custom starts when the corridor is long enough that a plain repeat would get monotonous, or when the run has to negotiate a doorway, a switch plate and a return corner and still look intentional.
  • We publish no custom-tier hallway price, because most corridors do not need one. The exception is the two-storey stair wall — a genuinely different job, quoted after we've stood in it. Ask, and it goes through custom.
  • This is also how most people start. A hallway section is a small, low-risk way to see cast relief in your own light before committing to the bedroom or the fireplace.

Material

Materials and how it lasts

Cast gypsum plaster — the same mineral material, from the same moulds, whatever the tier. The $800 section is not a cheaper substance than the $15,000 wall; it is less of it, in a simpler layout.

Entryways in Florida see the front door open all day, so they meet more outside air than any other interior wall. That is fine for plaster in a conditioned house — what is not fine is an unconditioned breezeway or a screened porch, and we'll tell you if that's what your entry actually is.

Because this wall gets handled, repairability is the point rather than a footnote. A scuff washes off paint. A chip is filled, re-sculpted locally and repainted, and the moulds stay in our studio, so there is never a discontinued batch to match.

  • Shallower relief and softened edges below shoulder height, by design
  • Repaintable with ordinary interior wall paint, any colour
  • Fixed as part of the wall — removal is a drywall repair, not a peel

Questions

Questions about entryways and hallways

How much is an entryway accent wall in Jacksonville?

A ready-made relief section of 16–24 sq ft is $800–1,400 installed, in 3–5 days. A semi-custom corridor composition of about 50 sq ft is $3,000–3,600 over 2–3 weeks. Both include installation by our own team and a free measure within 40 miles of Jacksonville.

Will relief make a narrow hallway feel narrower?

In practice it does the opposite, and the reason is angle. In a corridor you never see the wall straight on, you see it in raking light from the side, which is the single best condition relief can be given. The surface itself sits closer to the wall than a picture frame or a console table, so it costs you no floor and no walking width.

It gets touched constantly. Will it survive that?

This is the one wall in the house people actually brush against, so we design for it: shallower relief and softened edges in the lower band, the deeper modelling above shoulder height. Painted cast plaster wipes down like any painted wall, and a real knock is filled, re-sculpted locally and repainted rather than replaced.

Can I install a ready-made panel myself?

Yes. Ready-made sections can be installed by you or your handyman if you prefer, which is why this tier exists. Our own team does it as standard, and on a semi-custom composition we do it as a rule, because the layout has to be set out against the corridor before anything goes on the wall.

Is $800 really the whole price?

For a small ready-made section, installed, within 40 miles of Jacksonville, yes. What moves it is preparation: stripping wallpaper or panelling, or levelling a wall that is out of true, adds $300–800, and we say so at the quote rather than on the invoice. We also do not take projects under $800 at all, because the visit and the setup cost more than the wall.

Can it be removed later?

Not cleanly. The relief is fixed and finished as part of the wall, so taking it off is a drywall repair, not a peel. It is not a renter's product, and we would rather say that here than at the end of a job.
